The municipality of Brønnøy is located on the coast of Helgeland, in the southern part of Nordland county. Brønnøy has 7800 inhabitans. Child and youth population amounts to approximately 1500 of these. Municipality centre is the town of Brønnøysund, with approximately 5000 inhabitants. The section for child care and youth services is the largest area of municipal service – along with the health sector. Since 1998, the municipality has had a well-functioning youth council and previosly participated in several cooperation projects, both regionally, nationally and internationally, as regards of youth involvement.
Brønnøy municipality has extensive experience with youth political work. For over a decade, there has ben continuous work with well-functioning CYP, for example; several general youth surveys, a well-functioning system of children’s spokespeople, annual youth political days, and several international youth projects. This has strengthened youth policy work in our municipality. We are also a member of the MED-network – this network consists of representatives from Nord University, the county governor, the country and three municipalities working with willingness to get involvement for children and youth. The work to coordinate drug and crime prevention measures for children and young people i an important part of the role of the Brønnøy municipality. The goal is for the municipality’s children and young people to receive the right help at the right time, from an aid apparatus that cooperates well across agencies and professional groups.
